Venue Hunting - Day 2

written by GreggPollack on July 2nd, 2007 @ 11:21 PM

Today I had lunch with Mike Blake and Tracy Reinstein, the owner of Taste located in the college park area. Taste is a very eclectic tapas restaurant and bar with great atmosphere and style.

There are so many wonderful things to be said about the place:

1. They have 2 big rooms. One with a stage and enough room to seat 40 people comfortably. The second with a bar and enough room to fit 60 people comfortably. They also have a small room near the entrance with room for about 20 people to hang out and socialize.

2. They have some amazing food, and would be able to cater dinner there at the location.

3. They’re closed on Sundays, so we’d be able to have the place anytime on any Sunday. I’m thinking we’d open the doors at 1 PM, start the talks at 2 PM, and run talks until 9 PM.

4. Mike Blake came up with the idea of booking a band to come play at 9 PM on their stage, and end the evening with a Party. Everyone could invite over their significant others around 9 PM for the Band and Socializing.

5. Did I mention they have a full bar?

Man, this place is so perfect for a BarCamp. I’m waiting for the owner to email me some quotes. If the price is right, I don’t think a location could get any better then this.

I work right down the street from Taste and have lunch there sometimes. Taste would be an ideal place, even though it is still small, to hold Barcamp. Oh, and if you are looking around Winter Park check out Foxfire lounge at the Best Western Mt. Vernon. It is as kitschy as they come. If you do not know they have a man and woman play/sing Easy Listening there every Friday and Saturday night. I will keep brainstorming venues around town...
